More Than a Tournament

The Greensboro Parks Foundation Open is more than a day on the course. It is a mission-driven event that helps preserve the legacy of Gillespie Golf Course while supporting its continued transformation as an accessible, welcoming public asset for Greensboro.

Proceeds from the tournament help strengthen programs, expand access, and support future improvements that will benefit youth, veterans, families, and golfers of all abilities. By participating, sponsors and players become part of a larger effort to invest in a place that has shaped our community for generations.

A Historic Course With a Powerful Legacy

Gillespie Golf Course is more than a place to play—it is a landmark of perseverance, inclusion, and community history. In 1955, six Black golfers led by Dr. George Simkins challenged segregation by playing the course in defiance of its whites-only policy. Their action helped lead to the desegregation of public golf in Greensboro and across North Carolina.

Today, Gillespie continues to reflect that legacy of access and opportunity, serving as a welcoming space for players of all backgrounds and abilities.
